The history of the current Faculty of Philology dates back to the Karshi branch of the Bukhara United Pedagogical and Teachers' Institute on September 1, 1945, when students were admitted to the Uzbek language and literature department. In 1952, four specialties were merged and a department with the status of a faculty was established (headed by Abdimo'min Qahhorov). In 1958, the Faculty of Uzbek Language and Literature was officially established (along with the Department of History). Senior lecturer Salom Nurov was appointed dean. Until 1960, the faculty also included the Department of Pedagogy and Primary Education Methodology. Since 1961, the Uzbek language and literature department has been operating as part of the Faculty of History and Philology. In 1977, the faculty was divided into two and began to operate as the Faculty of Philology (Uzbek Philology), and in 1993 it was transformed into a Philology Center. In 1996, the status of the Faculty of Uzbek Language and Literature was restored. Since 2010, it has been called Uzbek Philology again. In the new organizational structure approved in August 2014, it was named the Faculty of Uzbek Philology. The faculty was headed by A.Kahhorov (head of department), deans S.Nurov, S.Shodiev, A.Ashrapov, A.Mamatkulov, T.O'rinov, V.Egamberdiev, A.Mavlonov, F.Eshimov, E.Shodmonov, D.Turayev, P.Ravshanov, B.Yuldoshev, T.Nafasov, A.Ergashev, N.Shodmonov, B.Mengliyev, G.Ernazarova, I.Khudoynazarov, Sh.Nuriddinov, R.Jumayev in different years.
